My name is Skyler Chubak. I am a Penman and Lettering artist. I am 26 years old. I work out of a studio in Salt Lake City, Utah and was born and raised in the area.

My interest in calligraphic arts began in high school but did not grow to an obsession until a couple years later. I started out self taught but have spent the last 5 years attending calligraphy conventions, workshops, conferences, and guild meetings.

In 2013 I was awarded the IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting) scholarship. I attend their conference every year and created the logo for the 2016 convention.

I have been featured in a number of group art shows in the Salt Lake area and have put on a few solo shows as well.

My biggest inspirations as an artist are mostly letterers and calligraphers. I have a strong pull towards American Penman from the early 1800's on through the 1950's or so. I am especially fond of a number of English, French, Italian, Dutch, and German writers as well; mostly from the 1700's and 1800's. I also get huge inspiration from traditional Sign Writers and Glass Embossers.

My teacher, and Master Penman, Harvest Crittenden has helped me in developing my skill as a writer. She has helped me in many aspects of the art. There is a list of people too long in naming each one who have helped me through the years, but I owe special appreciation to her.

My interests outside of lettering are children's books, mostly american and english dating from around the 1880's through the 1930's, hiking in the mountains, riding my bike around Salt Lake, dancing and hanging out with friends, mostly the Wild Animal crew, lurking antique stores, and spending time with my good friend Lis. for commissions.
